The Rosie Bee

Starring Grizzy and Sophie

All About Sophie (and a little catch-up!)

First off, August is Sophie’s Gotcha Month. Her Gotcha Day was actually August 5. This is funny because I had it in my head that it was August 12, so I planned for that. Then upon further thought I remembered “Oh, no, it was August 4th!” THEN, I realized I first saw her August 4th, but I couldn’t formally adopt her that day, so I had to wait on pins and needles hoping that no one else would adopt her and I could get her the next day, August 5th.

Luckily for me, no one adopted her and I was able to take her home. 🙂 And rest assured, I now have her Gotcha Day burned into my brain–and heart–so next year I won’t be late. But I have showered her with hugs this month and told her I am so happy she came home with me last August.

My Sophie is a sweetheart. I’ve loved her since Day 1, but as the months go on I see how she is becoming more and more of a snuggle bug. Last night when I was getting ready for bed she jumped up top of the tall bookshelf in my room and settled in for the night. It makes me feel good to know my little girl is up there watching me. LOL It’s as if she thinks she’s protecting me, like, “I’ve got a good lookout from here.”

I also love how Sophie has always been a burrow-er. Case in point: I had put this blazer on my bed and she managed to tuck herself in quite nicely.

I love you, Sophita Lita!

In other news, I am so far behind on everything this month. But stuff is coming together. I got a new-to-me kitchen table (only about four months after it was promised to me, haha)! I bought a desk and am in the middle of painting it. I think having a designated place to work/blog/type will be so nice. And knock on wood, Grizzy seems to be holding steady at 8.2 pounds! He had a mini coughing fit the other night when I had the a/c on, which makes me wonder if it’s allergies or asthma? The one vet said it couldn’t be asthma, but she also said he most likely had FIP. I’ve noticed when it gets really dry or I put the air on, he tends to cough.

At any rate, I’m very pleased he’s been maintaining this weight. 🙂

Happy Sunday!

Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!

Once again, I am late to the ball. But rest assured, I’ve been celebrating Black Cat Appreciation Day all day!

I’d heard the superstitions and stories, but I thought that’s all they were. I was shocked when I was looking for cats after my Rosie died when I heard more than one person loudly announce that they’d NEVER consider taking a black cat, how they hated black cats, how no way, no how, no black cats. A neighbor of mine once commented on a feral cat in the neighborhood and said, “Ugh, and it’s BLACK.”

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

Look past the color, and to the personality. For me, I wasn’t looking for a black cat, per se; I was looking for a cat. He just happened to be Grizzy, and Grizzy just happens to be a very handsome black cat. 🙂 And my little Sophie, I went looking for a personality that would be a good match for the G-man. And Sophie just so happened to be a beautiful long-haired black lady cat!

I may be biased, but I think they are both stunning. They are also such sweethearts. They sleep with me, keep me company, and bring me so much joy. I love my little black kitties!

And tomorrow I hope to play catch-up with some posts and assorted information. 🙂 Have a good week everyone!

A quiet evening

It’s been a long day, but a good day. This week flew by. I’ve spent a lot of time with the mister and the little miss. I never fail to squee over her little legs and feet.

Sophie feet.

Sophie feet.

A moment before I got that shot her legs were crossed at the ankle! Next time.

In G health news, I’m pretty worried. Yesterday he was 8.2, today he was 8.0. I’ve tried a bunch of probiotics and will be trying a few more. The vet said there may be a blockage, but things are going in and coming out just fine, so I don’t know if it’d be worth the stress (for both him and me) to have a scope put down him. Thoughts?

He’s still eating about a half-can of the small cat food cans at dinner, and maybe a quarter to a half in the morning. Different varieties. I’ve been leaving Logic dry cat food out and I’ve seen him eating that, too.

I’m baffled. I’m not trying to sound morbid, but if he’s not meant to be here for years and years, well, that would SUCK to put it mildly (can’t say much more or I’ll really start bawling). But if that’s the case, I want him to be comfortable. I just wish I could fix him! I don’t know if it’s something I fed him, or it’s something he ate (like part of a toy) or what. I could drive myself mad wondering about all the possibilities. So instead I’ll look at him propped up on “his” cushion. He’s currently grooming himself in preparation for a nice nap. Oh, Grizzy, I love you so. Why are you losing weight? 😦

Sophie and the bananas

Last month I was so excited, it’s the second half of the year, I figured out how to schedule posts in advance (and it worked!), I was raring to go! And ack! The month got away from me. But it’s a new month and I am pumped. I totally geek out over new months.

I’ve been spending a lot of quality time with the kitties lately. Changing jobs was good but tiring. Lots of new things to learn and I’m definitely busier, which is a good thing, but more work = more tiredness. So it’s awesome to come home and hang out with the kitties.

I also feel like I’m bonding more with Sophie. Grizzy was always my little snuggle bug, and Sophie was more independent. Lately I’ve woken up in the middle of the night and found her right by my head! My heart, it melted. She’s such a sweetheart…and we’re coming up on her gotcha day! I love my Sophita Lita. 🙂

It also appears she either hates (or loves) bananas. I was lucky enough to get this clip of her “sampling” the produce:
