About that sweater…

My first sweater! It's a Nanook.

My first sweater! It’s a Nanook.

I’m nearing the end! I need to add the bottom ribbing and then I’m done. It looks more cropped in the photo above, but that’s because it’s bunched up on my needles and I didn’t want to get it too straight lest some of the stitches escape from the needles. The yarn also looks really nubby–it’s not. I think it’s a combination of the lighting and the dirty mirror. (Also, I’m told once I block it any little bumps or uneven bits will smooth out.)

I did lighten the photo because the yarn itself is very rich, forest green and looked like a big blob in my original picture.

It look me forever, yes, but I’ve learned a few great new skills:

  • Knitting in the round
  • Spit-splicing
  • Working armholes (that is, joining the finished arm to the unfinished body and then knitting down)
  • More advanced (to me) pattern reading
  • How to knit an actual sweater! 😀 😀 😀

Yahoo! I already have a couple sweaters picked out to work on when this is done… 🙂

How can 2018 be halfway over?

It’s July! The year is halfway over! I thought it was time to look at my goals and see where I’m at. I’m not a big resolutions fan, but each year I do like to jot down some things I’d like to try to accomplish in the new year. If nothing else, it serves as reminder of “Oh, yeah! I did want to do/try/check out that place/hobby/whatever.” Sometimes it’s to get me in a new habit, sometimes it’s simply a reminder. It’s pretty loose and fast.

I wrote down 11 items for 2018. It was a big list, to big in fact. Some were carryovers from the previous year, but even so. Next year’s list will be shorter.

    Completed Goals

  • Land one (1) new freelance gig
  • Pay off student loan (FREEDOM!!!)

    In-progress Goals

  • Knit a sweater – This has been so fun! Challenging and fun and I’m so glad I finally did it.
  • Get certified in Google Analytics – This ties into a work goal.

    Not-Yet-Started-But-Still-on-the-List Goals

  • Make meditation a regular practice
  • Update the blog more often

The rest of the goals don’t interest me anymore, so off the list they go.

For the second half of 2018, I’d like to:

  • Finish my sweater. I’ve got about four inches left, then weaving in ends, then blocking. I’ve enjoyed this project so much and am excited to finish it (and start a new one!).
  • Get certified in Google Analytics.
  • Update the blog more regularly.
  • Make meditation a regular practice.
  • Tied into the last one, I want to practice yoga more often. I feel SO good when I do yoga, so the trick for me is to make it regular habit. I’ve got to remember even 15 minutes is great.

Looking at the new list, there is definitely a them of doing things that make me happy. This year has had some challenges, so I think it’s especially good to do things that make you happy and keep you positive, or at least relatively calm.

How I want to spend the rest of my 2018…
